DEPRESSION: MY PERSPECTIVE By Moazam

DEPRESSION: MY PERSPECTIVE

“One day we will leave it behind”

As humans we all have feelings, we feel joy and happiness, we feel sorrow and sadness, that is a normal process of life and we all are going through this, but at times we feel these are in excess. Felling excessively sad is not a good sign, which means things are not normal anymore and we are depressed. Depression is a debilitating medical condition affecting irrespective of the age or sex and country or religion, Which in worst cases can ever take the lives of affected individuals. In USA (mentioned for the sake of data availability), more than 100 people take their lives every day due to depression. By the time you finish reading this article more than three people will have died due to depression. This medical condition does not only affect the person who is suffering from it but largely affects the people associated with him. Although many people die due to depression, fortunately provided we know the symptoms.

TYPES OF DEPRESSION

Major Depression, persistent depressive disorder, Bipolar disorder, Seasonal Affective disorder (SAD), Psychotic Depression, Postportum Depression, Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Depression (PMDD), Situational Depression, Atypical Depression.

HOW CAN I HELP A LOVED ONE WHO IS DEPRESSED?

There are so many loved ones  around us who get depressed at some stage of their lives. If you know someone with depression, first listen to him carefully and talk to him. Discuss the condition and get involved in healthy discussions on a regular basis. If things are getting worse then try to find a doctor or mental health professional and make an appointment.

WHERE CAN I GO FOR HELP?
The best person to talk about your condition are your family members or close friends. There are some online software tools available where one can find his/her mental status, but more important above all these is to consult a physician as actions speak louder than words. Get it done and get it right away. If you are unsure where to go for help, ask your family doctor or consult a psychologist.

….As a student , I have realized the biological essence of depression and I believe that in coming years we will have increasingly more sophisticated ( Experienced) ways of detecting and preventing depression.

…..I believe that mu beautiful homeland will come out strong and there will be happiness all around and there will be no need of these type of articles.
